LOOK: Clean and vibrant, intense maroon in colour.
SMELL:Intense ripe fruit with a hint of liquorice on the nose, leading to spicy notes from the ageing process in American oak.
TASTE:Ripe fruits on entering the mouth make this an attractive, eshy wine with well-crafted acidity, highlighting round tannins that give rise to a well-balanced persistence on the palate.
SERVING TEMPERATURE: 12 – 14º
CONSUMPTION:Ready to drink now. If left, this wine will evolve in the bottle. Decant 30 minutes before serving to let the wine breath. Could contain sediment due to the natural non-altered winemaking process.
This does not aect the quality of the wine.
PAIRINGS:The ideal wine for roast lamb, lamb chops over a vine-shoot barbeque, oxtail, suckling pig, and semi-cured cheese.
VINEYARD AND PRODUCTION
DESCRIPTION: Vineyards located in the municipalities of Roa and La Horra at an altitude of over 811 metres above sea-level.
SURFACE AREA:A total of 164 hectares.
AGE: Average of 25-year old vines.
SOIL: Sandy-loam soils.
CLIMATE: The dry, windy, Atlantic-continental climate boasts long, harsh, cold winters and short, dry, hot summers. A region with an average rainfall of 400 mm per year, which is divided into two areas: hillside slopes with greater exposure to sunlight leading to earlier ripening, and a valley area with less sunlight exposure giving rise to later ripening.
VINIFICATION: Traditional production involving destemming and alcoholic fermentation in stainless steel vats.
AGEING: 24 months in American oak barrels and 12 months in the bottle.
